At the farm Kvammen in Eidfjord there lived, in 1898, a younger farmer who one day fell ill. As soon as he had become sick and taken to his bed, he told his household that his hour had now come, and that before long he would be lying on his deathbed.

When he was asked how he could be so certain, he answered that it had been foretold and revealed to him in a dream he had had some time earlier. In the dream, he had heard a voice that clearly and distinctly told him that he now had only one year left to live, and that this time had now come to an end.

His household told him that he should not put any faith in dreams, and that he should not immediately believe he was going to die just because he felt ill and weak. With God’s help, they said, he would surely recover, just as many others had recovered after being more severely struck by illness than he was.

But he would hear none of it. He was completely convinced that he would soon depart this life, and he declared himself content with it, since he considered it to be God’s will that it should happen.

A few days later the man was dead, and his dream had come true.
